I also hope it's not true.

Why would a billionaire break the law over a measly 750K?  I just don't get that.

750K is pocket change to Cuban.

Martha was in a conundrum. Do I not act on pillow talk information and look like a ditzoid, or do act on the pillow talk information and take the chance of getting caught on insider trading.

I am sure Mark is going to "Clear His Good Name" just like all the other convicted inside traders.

Why are they also not arresting the people that passed him the inside information? Isn't that also illegal? It takes more than one person to cheat the system.

It's all about the money. Looks like a clear cut case of busting the narc before he told on their friends. I'm sure it is common practice to get tips the SEC is just jealous he made money and, I'm also sure he didn't pay his bribes like the SEC's buddies so he got busted. It's all such bull@!$%#. You found out how to gamble right too soon! It's not fair! Money must really screw with peoples heads. I'll never know.....

And the bondfire is 700billion dollars of our money burning. Cubans new website is the cause of this, check the timing. He called out the government for giving away another 40 billion dollars to the AIG executives for their massages and golf retreats. Mark is now marked.

I gotta say...I really don't care.  The reality is that friends tell friends about things.  My sister always tells me when Yankee Candle Company has stuff I like on clearance.  I tell my friends when the grocery store in the next town has meat on sale for a ridiculous price so they can go stock up.  The concept that a person should be forced to not act on information they get in friendly conversation is just silly.  The SEC actually thinks that if he hears that he's about to lose nearly a million dollars...he should just suck it up.  Now clearly...the guy can afford to lose it...but still...it seems preposterous to think a person would do so.

The other part of this that really bothers me is this.  With the kind of public image issues that our stock market has...with the economy the way it is...with companies closing their doors every day...why doesn't the SEC conduct these things in private negotiations.  Why further the negative image.  Why put a larger spotlight on the greed and dishonesty.  They can do their job and fix it without helping kill what little faith we have left.  He didn't hurt anyone.  He doesn't deserve to go to jail.  Fine him in private and shut the heck up.  This country needs to focus on something positive.  Knowing that Cuban saved what to him is a few bucks means absolutely nothing to me.  Hell...they should start a special fund for people who've lost their pensions and make these cheaters pay back their savings or profits to the fund. Then something good could come from it...cuz no one's life is made any better by Martha or Mark going to jail.

SkrewzieQ.  I like your idea of donating the fines to some type of charitable fund.  However, do you really think someone like Mark Cuban could be fined 'privately'?  People would find out about it the same way he found out he needed to offload some stock.

He's not the only one out there and if he's sorry it's only because he got caught.  But even if he is convicted what happens?  It's a good thing he has other assets he can employ to hire the best attorneys available and make for a prolonged legal battle.  Worst case scenario, he ends up in rich peoples prison where he can still play 18 a day.

It is about time we start hearing about this,  there is no way rich people were not  making lots of money with the stock market going up and down like it has.  Rich get richer and the poor can't retire because their 402k are in the toilet.  I hope they throw the book at Cuban if he is truly guilty.

                  HCG76 -

You are absolutely right - Like I've always said most of us are in the stock market through 401ks, or retirement IRAs - and not necessarily there to "make money" - just invest until we stop working and hope to have enough in retirement and old age.  These people could care less what happens to the rest of us.  I certainly don't feel sorry for him or anyone like him.  They, like the rest of us, know right from wrong.  They just try to beat the system with powerful, expensive legal teams.

This interesting Timing.  Cuban is trying to buy the Cubs but the MLB GM's don't want him to own the team.  I woldn't be surprised if it was one of the MLB GM's who tipped off the SEC in an effort to ruin his chances of buying the Cubs.

Although the Kidd move may have not be illegal, the result has been equally as devestating as the potential of a legal violation.

George W. Bush and friends have been running the Government for the last 8 years.  It is entirely appropriate that anyone, what ever their wealth be indicted if there is evidence of illegal activity.  Cuban cannot have donated enough to the Bush Cheney retirement fund. Wow, I knew it was only a matter of time before Bush was dragged into this. What are you people going to do, blame Bush until you die...good luck with that. How about lets look at the truth "no matter how inconvenient" it may be. Bush inherited a recession after Clinton left office...hmmm I wonder why you don't hear about it now...maybe because the mainstream media want Bush to be the fall guy. Let us also take a look at a few other things....

Bush removes the moratorium in July...Gas prices steadily decrease...had nothing to do the the anointed one Obama...he wasn't even the nominee yet, as a matter of fact he was against lifting the moratorium.

Obama's lead in the polls and his lead shrinking and the adjustments to the market followed if you look at the trends (not in Obama's favor). Your "bold" typing does nothing to impress me except that you fail to see any sense of reason. The market doesn't like Obama, and the drop in stocks is a pure sign and it will not recover unless he moves back to the center on his financial policies.

As for crooked, lets talk of all the Democrats and GOP that recieved donations from Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae as well as the UAW, lets see who the real crooks are.

It doesn't take a brain scientist to figure out that the UAW spent over 3 million in Ohio, PA, MI and Ill to get Dems elected into office and now your and my taxpayer money is goint to bail them out.

But I don't see you calling them out on it as well.

Call it like it is not like you want to see it. Was Bush completely innocent of everything, no, but to the the Dems are pure and innocent is retarded and foolish.

I wonder how much of the money George Soros made (billions) went into the back pocket of Obama and all the other Dems.

Those that have money try to make more, those that don't have money complain about the people that do. Your decisions have gotten you where you are today, quit blaming the President. 3 years ago I lived in a broken down mold infested trailer, today I own my own home with two new cars, all curtsy of hard work and smart decisions.

                              Losers.

The TRUTH will always be found in the imperical evidence of History itself ! Sarge.

" The Buck Stops Here ! "  President Harry Truman.

On more than one occasion President Truman referred to the desk sign in public statements. For example, in an address at the National War College on December 19, 1952 Mr. Truman said, "You know, it's easy for the Monday morning quarterback to say what the coach should have done, after the game is over. But when the decision is up before you -- and on my desk I have a motto which says The Buck Stops Here' -- the decision has to be made." In his farewell address to the American people given in January 1953, President Truman referred to this concept very specifically in asserting that, "The President--whoever he is--has to decide. He can't pass the buck to anybody. No one else can do the deciding for him. That's his job.

Let History judge President Bush's actions. I don't need to. The explanations are already written.

I think it is great.  Kudos to the SEC.   This Cuba blowhard thinks he is some sort of mystical business wizard. His "apprentice" rip-off show revealed his pathetic style of business.  He was lucky he was able to steal millions from shareholders during the internet bubble.  Since then his fortunes have plummeted.  Now sweet revenge is upon him like a huge piece of Karma pie.  This haunts similar to OJ Simpson in relative payback, but obviously not in severity of the crime.  Maybe some of the creature comforts from Martha Stewart's cell are still available.  I understand the "homey touches" may set the perfect ambiance for Cuba's new cell mate's love call.

Typical Billionare, penny wise (greedy)- dollar foolish (big asset picture). They would rather risk their fortune and reputation for mere pocket change. Ask Martha, Leona Helmsley, Soros, etc. They should just pay their obligations (taxes, payroll, losses, etc.) and move on. $750K is probably one day's salary for Mark Cuban. It is like me losing $150.00.

This is a guy who owns a private $50Million jet, sports clubs, Theathers, yachts, etc.

I bet his sports cars are worth more than $750k!

Martha wasnt sent to the pokie because she was found guilty of insider trading. Her lying to a federal investigator was what did her in. If Cuban is guilty, he should send his check straight to the DNC so they can restribute the wealth.

Mark finally got caught with his hand in the cookie jar.  He is and has always been a big time criminal who never got caught.  I hope he gets twenty years hard time in San Quentin.  He can turn around, bend over and take one for the O-Gipper among the big bucks.  This is what he deserves.

The banks are the ones that run the government.  Until the people decide that they have hit rock bottom, nothing is going to change.  I just hope that we don't have to go into martial law and get papered to cross the street before America wakes up.

G-R-E-E-D  that's how you spell it.  There goes your reputation Mark.  A billionaire willing to risk his ability to be "the good guy" over $750k when you've got a billion in the bank.

I've worked directly for 4 different rich entrepreneurs during my career.  They all had one thing in common other than being eccentric.  They were greedy.  All four were either hated by many or ended up in jail.

Please someone here answer me a question. Why is Cuban being treated differently? If Martha Stewart was found convicted and sent to prison over this, and under federal statute incarceration is not avoidable, why here? Cuban needs to face the music just like anyone else. I have worked previosuly for a publically traded company. You know not to give the information to anyone, even your pet for crying out loud...ok a stretch there, but you get what I mean.

As far as the Cubs sale, forget it. Bud Selig and the owners are leery of questionable ethics from new ownership groups and Cuban will be no exception. The Trib will not sell to him based on this, even through innocent until proven guilty.

As far as David Stern and the NBA owners go, maybe now would be the time to suspend Cuban until it's proven either way. Let someone else handle the team while he defends himself.

In other words, "I can't believe they didn't give me a chance to bribe them out of making this case".

It is interesting timing. I am no conspiracy cook, but Selig is looking for a good excuse not to let Cuban in the club despite all the fans in Chicago wanting it. 750 K seems like a small amount to chase down while the SEC's missed cues on naked short selling has contributed to this country's curent trillion dollar + mess this year alone.... Which by the way Mark has been a critic of and pointed out rather loudly... I find it all an interesting coincidence.
